I’ve photographed SO many cake smashes over the years and they are so much fun because you never know how they will react being able to just dive into a cake. My youngest, Madison, has been eating solids for a while and she has NO problem making a mess so I figured this would be pretty fun to watch. I even gathered her sisters around to watch!
I wanted to start with a few non-cake smash photos. I really don’t know how many times my husband and I had to keep bringing her back onto the backdrop. She was pretty unimpressed with my antics and was more interested in dancing in circles behind me to the music my husband was playing than having her photos taken. Regardless, she’s pretty cute!

Onto the cake smash portion of her session. I really thought she would dive in! First, she had to – ONE – BY – ONE – pull off the cake decorations. She brought them to her daddy, big sisters and me. (Again, one by one…) She’d stay on the backdrop for a few photos then mosey on off behind me to dance or try to escape upstairs.
Here is one of the times that she decided she needed to take a break because being forced to eat cake is tiring… lol! (Ignore the purple patched wall… one day we will finish it. hahaha!)
Onto the bath portion of her session. THIS KID WAS MORE INTERESTED IN THE TUB THAN HER CAKE. But what I really didn’t foresee was the amount of water she was going to dump all over the floor. The 1st, 2nd and second to last and last photos had some seriously photoshopping done to hide the amount of water splashed everywhere and to hide the wet backdrop that she decided to tear up, ‘cuz why not! lol!I honestly cannot believe a year of her life has gone by already! I feel like I just brought her home from the hospital!
Happy Birthday, Madison! We love you so much! It’s been such a joy watching you grow and explore over this past year and we cannot wait to see more and more of your personality shine through as you grow! ❤ ❤ ❤
Ella’s momma and I have been planning her one year session for several months. A few days before her session the weather wasn’t looking too favorable for travel. We decided to reschedule and it’s a good thing we did because that’s when we got the blizzard! I have to say, I was kind of disappointed we had to reschedule because I had been looking forward to this session. However, my girls really did enjoy playing in all of the snow.
Finally, two weeks later we did Ella’s session and, while she really made us work for smiles, she did an AMAZING job!
Happy birthday, Ella! I had so much fun with you!

We have gotten so much rain this spring… and the day of the Spencer Family’s photos was yet another day with rain in the forecast. In fact, while traveling to Hershey, there were rain showers off and on. Needless to say, I was incredibly nervous that it would start to downpour. Fortunately, as soon as I arrived (after getting lost and needing to be rescued by the family) the rain stopped… and it was a gorgeous day for photos! Now enjoy this beautiful family…
Sometimes it’s hard to be more interesting then the grass all around… 😉 Love this picture!
And some cake smash fun! These two were not shy! ❤ it!
Thanks so much! I had a blast!
Lucky me, I got to photograph Cole twice in one month! He came to see me during the cowboy mini sessions earlier this month. I discovered during the mini sessions that he doesn’t like grass (or hay). I discovered during this session that he doesn’t like getting dirty either… (I gotta say, I’d be okay with this… I am not a fan of messes either!!) He definitely has oodles of personality and he did a fantastic job during both sessions!!
Happy Birthday, Cole!
Please be in prayer tomorrow as my brother and family return to Kenya to continue their mission work.
Thank you for your prayers the last month. Please continue to cover them in prayer as they find their new “normal” without Hannah…

My brother and family had a super hero photo shoot while they were in the states.
