A little cup of encouragement…

I saw a post a couple of days ago about “fauxtographers” where the photographer discussed the rise of these inexperienced photographers: people who just decide one day they want to be a photographer with absolutely no knowledge of their camera outside the “auto” mode, no knowledge of photoshop, etc.  The photographer went on to say that he used to be one.  I had to chuckle because I had been tossing the idea around in my head about a blog post, not about fauxtographers, but rather about not giving up on your passion.

We all start somewhere.

I started my business after my oldest daughter Genesis was born on March 3, 2012.  Prior to having Genesis, I had worked at two large photography companies, photographing well over 3,000 sessions.  Before that, I received my degree: a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in photography and computer digital imagery.

All this being said, the last four years has been a huge period of growth for me.

Here are just a few examples: 2016-05-06_0002 copyFall 2012 vs Fall 2015

I am still learning and growing in my profession.  But I wanted to take a few minutes to offer up some encouragement to any up and coming photographers. If you love what you do, don’t give up.  Take each experience as a learning opportunity.  I am seriously my own worst critic!  Even after this growth, I still think to myself after a session: “I should have done this pose” or “I should have turned her a little bit more this way”.  This is how you learn.

If I can be an encouragement to you, feel free to reach out to me.  And remember, as creatives, there is no right or wrong.  (This is still something I struggle with!)

And a huge thanks to all of my clients over the years who have stuck with me as I’ve grown.  I appreciate each and every one of you!

❤ ❤ ❤

Mommy & Me Limited Edition Sessions {Lewistown, Pa} Photographer

Calling all Mamas out there!!!  Let’s be honest for a moment.  Aside from “selfies” from your cell phone… when was the last time you were in a photo with your kiddos?  A few months… over a year?

Seriously, figure it out for a moment… I’ll wait.

Now, when was the last time you’ve actually printed out one of those photos?  Has it been even longer?  My guess is it probably has been.

There are two things I’ve been discovering over the last few years since I began my own business.  Women are very self conscious about being in front of the camera.  And don’t get me wrong… I understand that.  But if you knew how many times I’ve heard “after I lose some weight”…

Let me tell you something…

Your kids don’t care what your pant size is… they want you in those memories with them.  Here is a FANTASTIC blog post from another photographer about just this.

The other thing I’m discovering: people rarely print their photos.  It gets put in a drawer and on their to do list.  Sometimes it happens but more than likely, it doesn’t.  More often than not, the photos end up on Facebook wall and Instagram feed but not on the walls of your home.

Ladies, we have got to start doing better at this.  We need to make a conscious effort to get in those photos with our children AND we need to print those memories.

Twenty years from now… do you want to be showing your kids photos on your Facebook wall or on the walls of your home?

A bittersweet day…

Today there is an appointment on my calendar that I won’t be able to make… Not because I don’t want to be there but because she was called home to Jesus on Easter Sunday… just one week before our scheduled session.

I was so looking forward to seeing her again, photographing her with her pigtails/pony tail, capturing those big beautiful eyes…

The week leading up to Easter Sunday I had been keeping an eye on the weather to make sure it would be a good temperature for her and planning what poses I would do.  I was even debating buying a new lens I’ve been wanting to get for over a year just so I could capture the very best photos for her and her parents.

On Sunday, when I heard what had happened, I broke down.  Why couldn’t I have rearranged my schedule, I wish I would’ve known this was going to happen…

…If only… if only…

Today, the day of our appointment, I’m now going to a different location but I’m going with the same little girl on my mind and with my camera in my hand…

You see, I’m meeting up with a couple hundred people… people’s whose lives have been impacted by this little life and we are going to celebrate her and show her parents what an inspiration they have been to us and how much we love and support them.

Today, one little girl may be absent but she will never be forgotten…

Book Sneak Peek {Lewistown, Pa} Newborn Photographer

Meet six day old, Amelia Claire!

Amelia’s mommy contacted me months before her due date… (I love a planner, cuz heaven knows I’m a terrible one! lol) When I found out she was having a girl, I was so excited because I got to pull out all of my adorable girly props!  I mean, seriously!!! Every girl needs to accessorize!  Am I right?!?! And when I found out that mommy was a teacher, I just HAD to have my school set up for Amelia!

Side note: this gorgeous mama had to have a c-section… She wasn’t feeling very well the day of our session and Miss Amelia was giving them a run for their money that morning.  But, seriously… how GORGEOUS is she?!  She was absolutely glowing!  ❤

Thank you so much for asking me to capture Amelia’s newborn photos!  Enjoy your sneak peek. ❤ Book_21 copy447A8924 copy-adv Book_11 copy447A8883 copy-adv 447A9059 copy-adv 447A9064 copy-adv Book_29 copy447A8959-2 copy-adv447A8998 copy-adv447A9009 copy-adv447A9168 copy-adv Book_88 copy 447A9215 copy-adv 447A9235 copy 2adv22447A9139-finished-advAnd my absolute favorite image… just hatched.  ❤

Sanderson Sneak Peek {Lewistown, Pa} Cake Smash Session

Ella’s momma and I have been planning her one year session for several months.  A few days before her session the weather wasn’t looking too favorable for travel.  We decided to reschedule and it’s a good thing we did because that’s when we got the blizzard!  I have to say, I was kind of disappointed we had to reschedule because I had been looking forward to this session.  However, my girls really did enjoy playing in all of the snow.

Finally, two weeks later we did Ella’s session and, while she really made us work for smiles, she did an AMAZING job!

Happy birthday, Ella!  I had so much fun with you!
